William specializes in civil litigation defense, focusing his practice on general civil litigation, commercial litigation, and insurance litigation defense.

What accomplishment has given you the greatest satisfaction?
I’m extremely proud of the work being accomplished by the Minds Matter, Cleveland Chapter, and my volunteer involvement with the organization. This is a program I’ve participated in for the last six years that helps bridge the gap between low-income high school and college students, often with substantial merit based scholarships. From resume writing to SAT preparation, Minds Matter is instrumental in helping Cleveland high school students achieve their educational goals.

What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned so far in your career?
An age old tale – you catch more flies with honey.

What is the most valuable thing a lawyer can do for their clients?
Be prepared. Know your file, know your cases, understand your judge and venue, and most important, understand your client’s needs. To that end, open and regular communication with your clients is key to a successful outcome.

What is an interesting trend happening right now related to your field of practice?
On the defense side, we have been seeing breach of contract claims accompanied by fraud claims and efforts to extend personal liability to individual owners/shareholders by claimants attempting to pierce the corporate veil. Observing corporate formalities and obtaining the right litigation team when issues arise is critical to avoiding such issues.

What do you think your profession would be if you weren’t a lawyer?
I see myself as an architect and/or city planner, with a concentration on the design aspects of high rises specifically.

What is on your bucket list?
My favorite television show is Ice Pilots, which is about pilots who fly vintage World War II propeller planes in the Northwest Territories in Canada.  I would like to vacation there with my family, via one of the vintage propeller planes.
